Summary
As mechanical project engineer you will oversee all mechanical engineering activities on site and ensure Perfect Delivery.
Key objectives
* Implement appropriate metrics to measure performance that can demonstrate value for money on all projects
Maintain quality management systems for both internal and external delivery of design projects
Principal responsibilities and accountabilities
* Develop a culture of best practice and innovation through internal and external industry benchmarking
* Act as projects interface for mechanical engineering activities to customers and suppliers
* Check mechanical engineering designs performed by others in line with procedures
* Perform activities associated with mechanical engineering scope for projects in consultation with colleagues, suppliers and customers, in line with best practice, operational procedures and the contract specification
* Provide mechanical engineering support for tenders as required
* Specify requirements for design of aeration systems (blowers, pipework, valves, diffusers), pumping systems, mechanical plant and mechanical installation
* Provide mechanical engineering input to design activities by other disciplines such as project management
* Review specifications and drawings to ensure that mechanical engineering scope is implemented appropriately
* Ensure compliance with statutory and contractual requirements with particular regard to health and safety legislation
* Convey information on mechanical interfaces to and from 3rd party equipment to ensure correct interfacing
* Pre-site testing and on-site commissioning of plant and recording results of these
* Ensure that mechanical design activities are carried out uniformly and to the appropriate standard specifications
* Maintenance of key performance indicators to monitor and improve the effectiveness of the mechanical design department
*I nput into, and participate in robust monthly reporting and reviews
Person specification
Qualifications and training
* Degree or HNC/HND with relevant industry experience
* Preferably chartered engineer status
Technical skills and experience
* Demonstrable relevant mechanical engineering experience preferably within the water and/or waste water industry
* Demonstrable experience in the ability to carry out all elements of mechanical design
* Knowledge of sewage treatment processes, with particular regard to activated sludge plants and pumping station design
* Experience in applying heath and safety standards
