What on earth is the government doing?

Construction on its knees, and Brown decides the best thing to do to speed up house building is put the councils in charge.

A couple of years ago, grants were being offered to private house builders to build social housing because the various councils, ALMOs, housing associations, etc were too slow.

Yet Brown now says: "if local authorities can convince us that they can deliver quickly, and cost effectively, more of the housing that Britain needs . . . then we will be prepared to give them our full backing and put aside anything that stands in their way.”

Why the about turn?

Honestly, this country is on it's way to becoming a centrally-planned socialist state.

What on earth is the government doing? The Government doesnt know what the Government is doing.

A couple of years ago, grants were being offered to private house builders to build social housing because the various councils, ALMOs, housing associations, etc were too slow. Were too slow?  Whats changed?  Snails move quicker and are more decisive.

Why the about turn? Because he thinks its a vote winner.

Honestly, this country is on it's way to becoming a centrally-planned socialist state. Becoming??????????????????

Exactly. Never mind Mandelson's 10 day payment that all parts of Government are meant to be committed to, how about actually paying at 28 days as contract terms (or is aiming at 10 days the only way they'll manage to pay at 28 days?)

In my experience government departments are the WORST at settling accounts.

At least with main contractors we have mcd to help grease the wheels, although its seldom applied.

One of my favourite coments from a main contractor to a sub-contractor.......................

MC; (an indignant) You seem to owe us money!

SC; Why's that then?

MC; (an even more indignant) You didnt give us 2.5% mcd on your invoice as per our agreed terms and conditions.  You are technically in breach of contract!!!!

SC: Thats because YOU didnt settle within 28 days as per the terms and conditions of contract that YOU issued to us.

MC; Ah, well, er, um, cough.........................................

Have strength, my little cabbage. By the mercy of NKVD Order No. 00447, we have been chosen for Resettlement.

We will show the tin mines of Kolyma the true power of the proletariat.

Ha, ha, very good.

Unfortunately it's normally me being indignant. Generally about retentions......

Ah yes, retentions.

I wonder how many contractors actually hold retention monies is seperate, bonded accounts, where they are safe.  (Well, when I say safe...................)

As opposed to simply holding them in their priciple (overdraft) accounts...........................

Councils in charge now there is a joke. Our council has just lowered the rents as it is now supposed to be able to chose how it spens the rent. We have been campaigning to have the trees in our road lopped as they have damaged the road paths fences and are underpinning the houses. as they are lime trees they create havoc and a server danger to pedestrians and drivers,   the council says,,,,,,,we have no money to do the trees and ,,,,,,,no money to regualy send in a road sweeper to clean up the dangerous mess from the trees,,,,,,when threatened with a deriliction of care order,,,,,their reply was we do care we just cant do anything about it,,,,,,,they cannot maintain the houses they have so how are they going to build new ones. You just know all the new builds will go to associations with exorbitants rents,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,what a farce.

Forced to be political , cos someone killed practical LONG LIVE PRACTICAL

Over here in Twickenham, several owners got together and demanded a Council Tax reduction....worked a treat, new footpaths, trees all pollarded and clean?

You can eat off the pavement...well you could if that's what you're into!

This country is completely fooked, and it's getting worse!

Super Angry
